SALERNO EXCURSION
Town of the region Campania, located
near the homonymous gulf and the fascinating Amalfi Coast. It
was founded by the Romans with the name Salernum. Then, in 646, it
was conquered by the Longobards and in 1077, by the Norman
Roberto the Guiscardo.
During this period it became an
important cultural centre thanks to its Ancient Medical School,
the most famous in Europe. Nowadays its historical centre, of
medieval origins, it’s famous for the Castle which is of Byzantine
origins but its name is from the Longobard Duke Arechi.
Besides, here it’s possible admire the
Duomo, founded in 1080, whose architecture shows Arabic
influence and the Archaeological Museum with rests belonging
to the prehistory until the roman age.
